Lutoban geeft opdracht tot het slaan van een waterput in afgelegen dorp

De stichting Lutoban heeft opdracht gegeven om bij de Igcamalig basisschool in de barangay Mabini een waterput te slaan. Mabini ligt op het eiland Negros op de Fillipijnen 30 kilometer ten noorden van Cadiz.

De school ligt op een berg in de wijk Sitio Igcamalig en het dorpje bestaat uit arme landarbeiders. Er leven ongeveer 50 families die nu voor hun water de berg af moeten om water te halen.

Het water uit de put wordt gefilterd zodat er drinkwater beschikbaar komt. Ook kan het water natuurlijk gebruikt worden voor het wassen, wat de hygiëne ten goede zal komen.

De school heeft 42 kinderen die in slechte gebouwen les krijgen.

Het slaan van de waterput zal uitgevoerd worden door Ariel Pachicha die samen met de bewoners zal samenwerken. Met name het op de plaats krijgen van de materialen zal nog een uitdaging worden omdat er geen weg naar boven gaat die door vrachtwagens bereden kan worden. 

Naar verwachting zijn de werkzaamheden rond 1 december 2021 klaar. 

Hieronder staat de aanvraag van de directrice van de school:

gcamalig Elementary School currently lacks a clean and safe drinking water source. The only drinking water source is found at the foot of the hill, under the rice field. More or less 1 kilometer away from the school. Fetching water is too risky for the pupils for they will have to take a slope pass to the water well. During rainy season the pass is very slippery.

The water in the well is not safe for drinking because of the rice field above the well, as well as it is open. 

If our request will be granted, the water from the water lining that passes in the school campus will be the source. The water there comes from the river. 

If this project will be pursued, this will make a great impact to the pupils. The safety of the pupils will be taken care of for they will not fetch water down the slippery hill. Their health will be safeguarded because the water is safe for drinking. 

In addition, proper handwashing will also be practiced. This will also develop the proper hygiene of the pupils and diseases will be prevented. 

Not only the pupils can benefit from the project but as well as the community of Sitio Igcamalig.
